Week 18: A New Project

This week has been super busy not with work or travel but with a new project I have taken on. as a result I have not had a chance to go out with my camera. I have decided to renovate my kitchen which has resulted in this week being filled with meetings with my designer, researching stuff on line, interviewing contractors, viewing samples of counter tops and cabinets. Holy moly this is a lot of work. Good news is some decisions have been made and it looks like I should be able to get this project completed by July. The decisions I have made is that the counter tops will be from EcoTop or something similar this is a very green product, they are made from recycled paper the counter tops will either be black or a dark grey. I am leaning towards a cream color for the cabinets or a very light maple. These samples (and photos) are from Canyon Creek.

Speaking of samples the few pictures I have taken this week are samples of fabric for the project. Fabric, what do I need fabric for well the new kitchen will have an elevated bar. While these aren't the greatest shots as they were taken with my camera phone in poor lighting conditions I didn't want to miss out on a week. These are the 3 fabrics I am considering for the bar stools. What do you think I should go with:

Week 17: I See Summer

Yesterday was a gorgeous day for a hike. A 1.5 hour car drive and a 15 minute ferry and I was at Ebey's Landing on Whidbey Island for a 6 mile hike along the bluffs. Clear blue skies & big white clouds, it really doesn't get much better than this. I have a feeling this is going to be the first of many hikes over the next coming months.

Week 16: Sun Drenched Tulips

Today I woke up at 3:45AM to drive up to Skagit Valley with my Flickr peeps. A very early hour but needed in order to catch the sunrise. The trip was well worth it got a lot of great shots. This is one of my favorites of the day.

Night & Day

It is amazing how much a place changes throughout the day. I tend to get up early even while I am on vacation to get shots without lots of tourists in my photos as well as take advantage of the "golden hour". This enables me to get photos such as this. About an hour later this isn't possible as there are just too many people milling about. At night there is a much different feel to places and it's lots of fun playing with long exposures. Here are some shots of the same place taken during the day and again at night.

Florence at Night: Hehehehe just checking to see who is paying attention. Now for the real shots. Duomo

Week 15: Sunset in Florence

Week 15: Sunset in Florence by expatdawn

Sunday evening sunset from Piazza Michelangelo. This is the last picture I took on the trip, a beautiful way to end the weekend. Florence is a wonderful city and I had a great time wandering around, climbing the bastille, biking through the Tuscan countryside and eating a gelato or two.

Week 14: A tale of 2 cities

My travels around Europe this week have taken me to Darmstadt, Germany and Milan, Italy. The photos for this week aren't the greatest but rather they contrast the two experiences I had in Gemany & Italy. The hotel room in Darmstadt was a little on the small side. I'm used to small hotel rooms but this seemed tinier than usual. I think my dorm room in college was bigger than this. I had dinner at a pub across from the hotel and had a pretzel for my friend Leilah. The beer was for me :) In Milan on the other hand I was upgraded upon check in, the room was significantly larger. It wasn't the size of the room that I was most pleased with, but rather this wonderful feature. A good soak in a hot tub does a body good after travelling. Week 13: Back Home

Week 13 means I am officially 25% completed with this project. I am probably going to jinx myself but I have to say this has been pretty easy so far. For those of you paying attention to the blog you may notice that I've changed the layout and format a little bit. My blog posts will now include which camera the photo was taken with and the location. In 13 weeks I have used 5 different cameras and the photos have been taken in 4 different locations. The next 2 weeks will add 2 more locations.

This week takes me back to one of my former homes - London. It's hard to believe it has almost been 2 years since I left. While I do feel right at home there are some things that have changed since I left. There are now cycles for hire throughout London, was a little too tired today to try one out. All I could muster today was taking a photograph of them. Week 13: Cycles for hire
